This infographic was created based on our recent blog post, “The Anatomy of a Cyber Attack: A Walk-Through Detection Case Study“. In this post, we highlighted several statistics. For instance, cyber-attacks occur, on average, every 39 seconds. According to IBM Security’s Cost of a Data Breach Report for 2022, 83% of businesses have experienced multiple breaches. Alarmingly, between March 2021 and February 2022, 42 million records containing names, email addresses, passport details, and sensitive healthcare and financial information were exposed, indicating a worsening trend. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has reported a 300% surge in cyber-attacks since 2020, particularly targeting the financial sector. The  Boston Consulting Group reports that about 63% of financial institutions have seen increased cyber-attacks, underscoring the severe threat landscape.

The Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report also reveals that phishing was involved in 22% of breaches, serving as a frequent entry point for attackers. In 2020 alone, £1.4 billion was lost due to Business Email Compromise (BEC). The SANS Institute highlights that multi-factor authentication (MFA) training can reduce phishing susceptibility to phishing by up to 40%, emphasising the importance of cybersecurity training.
